Have Faith

Laveena Mendonca

Everyone’s journey may be different compared to mine, that doesn’t matter. Even if you may not get that blessing right now, if you have faith, you will find your success.”

Those who come to the Calgary office has surely been acquainted with Laveena Mendonca. Laveena is an incredibly tenacious, faith-driven and strong woman who is an inspiration to us. Her story is touching and inspires us to be grateful for everything that we have. Mrs. Mendonca has overcome it all – naysayers, lack of family support, and personal challenges – but despite all of these trials, she remained committed to her purpose of positively impacting the world. Today, she has, due to her hard work, reached a new milestone in her career as Senior Vice President (SVP) and we celebrate her success.

In 2015, after many years in the banking profession, I reached the point where I wanted some time and financial freedom. I had my bachelor’s degree in economics, as well as a master's in financial analysis from India. At that time, I was working as a manager of finance at Life Insurance Asset Management before we landed in Canada. I felt the need for a change. I prayed to God and asked for a sign – to show me what I should do in my life, and that I should feel good about my decision. Most wouldn’t believe that shortly after, I encountered an amazing couple who persisted in showing me an opportunity.  Though skeptical at first, I agreed to see the Greatway presentation, and during that time, I felt that there was something unique about this opportunity.

I felt that I could do it, I saw the potential. It was a straightforward thing. I was so convinced that I also asked my husband for his input, and he said he would support me. I can recall the time I was working at the bank in 2010. There was an advisor who deposited big cheques every week. She had mentioned the business, but I ignored it then. I did not think it was “my cup of tea”.  Nevertheless, God’s time is ultimately what makes the difference, and I was re-introduced to Greatway at a later point, thanks to that persistent couple.

My journey with Greatway Financial began with mixed emotions. Fear, excitement, doubts. Despite this, my husband supported me throughout the entire process of training and learning. He took care of my son, even after he came back from work, he did everything, in order to give me the chance to proceed with my advisor career. I never had to worry about anything. I finally got my license on April 3rd, 2015 – and received my confirmation of contracting on April 7th that same year. Regrettably, the following year, on April 7th of 2016, my husband had a massive stroke.

I remember being in the hospital, and the doctor was informing me that my husband would never walk again. That he’d be a “vegetable”. I don’t know why these things happen. But the doctors were thinking he would be that way, and everyone who saw my husband thought the same. The doctor kept saying “unfortunately this, and unfortunately that.” I hated that word, “unfortunately”. Somewhere down the line, I said to myself that if I had faith if I believed, that he would walk. I went to see him, to lay my hand on him and pray. For the first time in our 20 years of marriage, I saw him cry. I couldn’t cry because I had to be strong for us. My husband was so concerned about how I was going to manage this along taking care of our autistic son. I told him that I was going to take care of everything.

“When people asked me how I did this, I told them being strong is the only option I have.”

Deep down inside, something told me that things would be okay – so long as I had faith and kept believing. I cried and prayed for God to help me. The whole night I prayed and visualized that he would be okay and healthy again. Within a week, I was informed by the doctor that my husband had the ability to sit down. I kept praying and visualizing that he would be able to walk, and my prayers were heard - my husband started walking with the help of a cane within 7 months.  I also started believing that I would be receiving the amount of money necessary to manage my situation.  Little did I know that God was preparing me for the blessings that I would receive in my life. With the little work that I did with Greatway, I received funds which really helped me. This is when I was taken aback.

The little work that I did, allowed me to get compensated more than I had been paid with my full time work. This is when I realized how great the opportunity was with our company. When people asked me how I did this, I told them “being strong is the only option I have”. I tried my best and with an amazing Greatway Financial system, I earned great income which helped me support my family. I also managed to go on multiple vacations in 2019.  I thank God for the mercy and love He has been shown. Only in a year’s time, I managed to get time freedom with a 6-figure income.  Through my patience and ability to endure the hard times, I’ve become a Senior Vice President.

Everyone’s journey may be different compared to mine, that doesn’t matter. I am confident that if I can achieve this, everyone can. I believe passive income should be a source of income for everyone.  Don’t worry, with Greatway, all you need to do is follow the system and “voila” you’ll succeed. Even if you may not get that blessing right now, if you have faith, you will find your success. Have faith and balance your life. When I look back at my journey, despite all the challenges I have, I feel blessed because I have such a great family in Greatway Financial. It is, indeed, a great company. Anyone with grit and passion for success can succeed at Greatway Financial. I sincerely wish that God continues to bless Greatway, as they have touched, and continue to impact so many lives.
