Greatway Helped me to Experience Real Connections with my Kids

In celebration of Mother’s Day, we did not want to miss the opportunity to honour some of our amazing Greatway Moms! At Greatway, we’ve decided to keep celebrating our mothers for the rest of May because let’s be real – our moms deserve more than a day. For this week’s feature, we would like to highlight one of our Senior Vice Presidents, Menchie Tacata, a single mom who will be sharing her story on her struggle juggling full time and part-time jobs to provide for her kids and how Greatway significantly changed her life and values as a mother.

“You always have to think of your “why” and for me that would be my kids. I do it all for my children

Being a single mom, I didn’t have the time to spend with my family, because I had to work more to support my kids. I had to ask friends to watch my kids while I work my full-time job in the morning and head to my part- time job at night. It was heartbreaking to know that other people were basically raising my kids. Greatway helped me become stronger. Having experienced all those, I learned to appreciate things better and look at everything through a better perspective. I saw my challenges as blessings. I also realized that sometimes as a mom, you are not always right. It was our Lead Mentor, Marlon Antonio, who inspired me with his family values. He mentioned at a meeting that sometimes you must listen to your kids because they will not be kids forever. You need to allow them to be able to weigh in on every decision that you make. So, whether it is a big or small family decision, I made sure to include my kids in the process to give them the space to grow.

I am thankful because Greatway allowed me to experience real connection with my kids. I had one rule before and that was to always eat dinner together as a family. Unfortunately, when I first started Greatway I was the one who broke that rule. I got busy with meetings and trainings. But I believe that small sacrifices are worth it because now I am reaping the benefits. Not only do I get to spend more time with my kids, but now I can even help take care of my grandchild.

You always must think of your “why.” If you have an opportunity, you must grab it and come up with your own solutions whenever you face problems. As a mother, it was heartbreaking not being able to buy the things your kids need, and I always try to remind myself why I am doing what I am doing. My why would be my kids and I want to be able to give them what they deserve and need. Don’t be scared. If there are negative things trying to stop you, just keep going. When you reach the moments where you want to give up, that’s when you keep pushing because that’s when you know you are closer to success. This pandemic is truly a blessing for me because it allowed me to focus on my family more and grow my business in the comfort of my own home. I think that when the pandemic ends and nothing has changed in your life, you missed an opportunity. Take this pandemic as an opportunity to improve yourself and work towards whatever you wanted to work on - in my case, my family, and you will be able to see more balance in your life.
