"Money can't buy happiness," is a saying you probably heard or read a million times. It is a wonderful idea that, at the core, can mean that we don't have to be wealthy to achieve happiness. However, some people might use it as an excuse not to excel or even try in life. (Related: Can Money Buy Happiness?)

According to Ted Talk speakers Michael Norton and Kelley Hennessy money can, in fact, buy happiness. With the media going back and forth on this topic, we asked one of our younger advisors, Kathleen Navarro, what her thoughts were on wealth and happiness, along with what other millennials are asking about Greatway Financial.

How did you find out about Greatway Financial and why did you decide to become an advisor?

My cousin showed me what Greatway is about back when I was 22. I didn't know anything about Greatway before jumping into becoming a licensed advisor to be honest. The business opportunity made me realize that I didn't want to end up like my parents in the sense that they are still working labour jobs in their later years. (Related: We Need to Help Our Family First) There is nothing wrong with that but I wanted to have more time to do the things I wanted in life, be happy and enjoy things. Four years later I'm still here and happy as Greatway Financial Advisor!

How did becoming an advisor play a role in your personal growth?

Originally I was in it for the money, of course (Related: Do You Need to Be Smart & Intelligent to Make Money?) but then I observed myself transition from being a shy individual to someone who is now able to confidently speak in public. (Related: Confidence Comes From Believing) Not only did I learn and improve in my financial knowledge, but also experienced personal growth which also led to improving my relationship with God.

How would you define true personal happiness?

I believe that wealth is happiness. If you have enough happiness, you can be wealthy. As I began my journey in Greatway Financial, I started viewing the concept of happiness differently. I believed that once you improve your finances, everything else will follow. (Related: Money & Stress) Then, I realized that personal growth and improvement is more important. I found myself happier when I invested into learning things I thought I already knew or even mastered and found out that there is so much to be learned still. For example about saving money, I thought I knew it all already. I thought as long as I save I was good. Then I realized oh wait, "I'm not 'good'."(Related: Start Young & Save)

There are so many things I learned about money that made it enjoyable for me to earn it and also make it work for me. On how my relationship with God improved, I thought I knew how religion worked and tried to rationalize things. When I stepped back and re-learned who and what God was for me, I started to walk in a world full of wonder, gratitude, and happiness that I didn't have before.

What does the Greatway Philosophy, "Think good, Say Good, Do good All the Time" mean to you?

It is the positive and supportive environment that Greatway Financial has and not just the company in general but also, the people who have the same mentality. It's contagious! I found myself also having a positive mentality and seeing the good in everything. (Related: Good Morning!)

Do you consider yourself wealthy?

Yes, I found true happiness when I get to spend time with the people I love whenever I want to. A happy life for me is having the freedom with my time, doing what I want anytime. I would say young adults should invest into things that provide long term happiness and eventually they will be wealthy. Freedom plus happiness equals wealth. (Related: What is Wealth?)
